Right now there are more than 5 vaccines for Covid-19 but the one that has been administrated in Europe is the Comirnaty Vaccine, so this post is going to be about it.

The Comirnaty vaccine from the laboratories BioNTech and Pfizer was authorized by the EMA at 21 December of 2020, meaning that passed in rigorous tests of efficacy and safety.

This vaccine demonstrated that can be used for prevent the Covid-19 in people with more than 16 years old, with an efficacy of 95%.

How the vaccine works?

The concept of this vaccine is not new but it’s the first vaccine where they used it. It’s composed by mRNA that codify part of the S protein of the SARS-CoV-2. To have more stability, the mRNA was encapsulated in nanoparticles lipids, allowing the distributions through the cells.

What the vaccine will made is create the S protein, that is what the virus need to enter the organism. Creating this Protein, will make our body create Anti-bodies and induce an immunity response against the SARS-CoV-2.

Mode of administration

The scheme to Comirnaty Vaccine is two doses of 0,3mL each, with the interval of 21 days.

Common adverse reaction

  • Pain in the local of injection (80%);
  • Fadigue (60%);
  • Headache (50%);
  • Muscle pain (30%);
  • Joint pain (20%);
  • Fever and flushing in the injection side (10%).

The efficacy of this vaccine was studied in more than 44 thousand people with 16 or older, had been demonstrated as mentioned before, an efficacy of 95%.

It is safe?

It’s the first vaccine with this type of mechanism (mRNA), but these type of vaccines has been studied for more than 15 years, and also the mRNA of the vaccine doesn’t stay on our body, it disappears after the injection.

The vaccine can infected me?

No, the vaccine doesn’t have the virus.

Is there some kind of care to be taken before been vaccinated?

If you have symptoms of Covid-19, like fever, loss of taste or scent, cough or breathing difficult, you shouldn’t be vaccinated.

Already have the vaccine, and now?

You must do the prevent measures, even if you already had the vaccine.

  • We don’t know how long we are immunized after getting the vaccine.
  • We don’t know if we can’t pass the virus on to someone else, even if you don’t get sick.

Because all of that, we must do all the prevent measures, like:

  • Social distancing;
  • Always use the mask;
  • Frequent and correct hand washing or disinfection;
  • Respiratory label measures.

We all should get the vaccine, right now is the only way to end this pandemic, so please GET VACCINATED!
