Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer [REVIEW]

Hello beauties,

Last Christmas, I received a Lookfantastic Christmas Cracker and if you never heard about Lookfantastic crackers, you should really look into them, because they are always full of good products to try. If you want to check what last year cracker brought, click in here. Today we wanted to talk about one of its products – the Illiamasqua Hydra Veil Primer.

This product is advertised as being part hydrator, part primer. It promises to instantly hydrate and smooth skin through a self-leveling, futuristic clear gel. Hydra Veil Primer contains Microalgae, Vitamin C and B3 that work together to help maintain skin hydration level, creating a healthy looking, balanced finish. Plant extracts also provide a calming and refreshing feeling, leaving skin fully prepped to apply your chosen foundation.

According to the website, Hydra Veil is the ultimate lightweight gel primer, that will not only give your skin a hydration boost but thanks to algae extracts, will help calm and soothe any redness or sensitivity.

When we talk about texture, the only think that I remember and that I can compare is hair gel

Because it’s a primer, it should be underneath foundation, and will smooth away any unwanted texture, such as fine lines and open pores, and will give your makeup increased long wear.

How to use: apply a small amount using fingers, on top of cleansed, moisturised skin, ensuring the most amount of product is around the T-Zone and then blend out. After a few seconds the freshly primed skin will be ready for your foundation application. Because of its gel consistency, a little goes a long way. Remember that!

I call this primer, the Doll skin maker, because every time I use it, every picture that I take, I look like a doll. The skin looks perfect without any filter. I normally don’t like to use filters on me but I know about their existence, who doesn’t use one or other? I don’t know what this does but in every picture the skin looks perfect! I call it magic, or a good pore cover. My bet is on the second!

In these photos, I’m using different foundations and I decided to include a photo with zoom (second photo) because on a normal ‘no-zoom’ photo the skin looks like a doll

I love it! I absolutely think this is a great product and I use it every time that I want a good shot but saying this, I also have to say that I noticed that every time I use this primer, on the next day, I notice some of my pores a little more prominent.

When I take my makeup I always use an oil, then a cleansing gel, but when I use this primer, I know that I have to do an exfoliation or use some kind of mask to unclog pores or I know that on the next day I will notice some texture. But I also noticed that if I do an exfoliation after removing the makeup, on the next day I will not notice any difference in the texture of the skin. So I really advice you to do the same if you have or are thinking about buying this product.
