Self Tanners for Beginners

Hello beauties,

It’s always important to protect your skin with a good SPF product when you are on a beach, but we understand the appeal of slightly glowing skin, but there’s an alternative to long days on the beach: self-tanners. Don’t forget that the sun’s UVA rays can be aging to the skin, and damage from UVB rays can burn!

Self-tanners nowadays have new formulas, more innovative than the last! There’s one to suit every desire, from natural to the not-so-natural, the ones best for beginners to the ones that are tricky.

If you had a bad experience with self-tanners, calm down because it’s common, that everyone had at least one bad experience with self-tanners. Patches of dark color around the knees and elbows, orange Oompa Loompa color, or pungent self-tanners smell, there are a lot of problems that can be described, when it comes to these types of products. But don’t worry, because nowadays there’s a lot of products easy to apply that can make your skin glow as you’ve just returned from the Riviera!

There are some tricks to get a long-lasting and streak-free finish:

  • Exfoliate before application. Use a gentle washcloth or loofah in the shower, paying attention to areas of thicker skin, like the elbows, knees, and ankles.
  • Once you’re completely dry, slather on a thin layer of moisturizer with SPF before applying the self-tanner in sections, typically from the bottom up in circular motions. If you’re applying it to your face, avoid the lips, eyes, and nostrils, to prevent discoloration.

Once done, gently buff the elbows, knees, and ankles with a damp washcloth and wash your hands immediately with gentle soap and warm water to prevent over-darkening.
Let the self-tanner dry for at least 10 minutes before getting dressed and, if possible, avoid sweating or rewetting your skin for three hours following application.
