New Sand & Sky Oil Control | Review |

Hello beauties,

If you follow our blog and Instagram page (@beautyworkerslife) you know how much I (Rita) love the Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay face mask (post here). I think this is the greatest face mask for someone with acne prone skin, it decreases inflammation and the skin looks glowy without being oily! It’s honestly my Holy grail!

Because of that, I was very excited to try the new Sand & Sky launch. The new range is called Oily Control and for know is composed by two products – the Clearing Cleanser and the Clearing Face Mask. I think what I found so appealing about these new products is partly because I have oily/combo skin and partly due to the ingredients listed. The promise of healthy-looking skin is something I can’t resist.  However, I often find that hype and reality can be two very different things.

CLEARING CLEANSER

PRICE & PACKAGING

The Clearing Cleanser retails for 29.90€ and is available at Sand & Sky. Currently it is sold out in the website but you can find it in other retailers. The cleanser is packaged in a simple squeezable plastic tube with a gorgeous green color. This style of packaging is ideal to have in a bathroom, and it allows you to carefully control how much you dispense.

The main active ingredient in this formula is Salicylic Acid, which is great for acne by reducing redness and unplugging blocked skin pores. This ingredient is also amazing for oily skin types! Plus it contains AHAs from Australian Finger Lime, which helps to peel away the surface of your skin, this way new skin cells may generate and take their place. Formulated with natural prebiotics, Old Man Weed and Tasmanian Pepperberry, it supports the skin barrier for clear and smoother skin.

FORMULA

The first thing you will notice about this cleanser is the smell, or in this case the lack of it! This is great because oily/sensitive/acne-prone skins don’t appreciate fragrances. The formula has a beautiful gel texture and it feels really cool as you begin to massage it into damp skin. The cleanser is gentle with a very light, barely-there foaming effect but don’t worry, it emulsifies. I actually prefer it that way, I don’t like cleansers that excessively foam, that sometimes means that they contain chemicals to create that excessive foam effect!

There’s some things that I like about this cleanser. I like how it leaves my skin feeling hydrated, it doesn’t leave the skin feeling “tight”, which nobody wants. “Tight” means your skin is being stripped of essential oils qnd nutrients necessary. Believe me, we need some oils in the skin, even the oily type skin!

Saying this, I have to say that although I think this is a good cleanser, I have to say that unfortunately is not for my skin. Why? Immediately after using it, I felt my skin clean, but a little red in the checks. I thought it was just because I rubbed the skin with a towel or maybe I used hot water, so I keep using it, but after a couple of days I noticed some bumps on the skin and overall the skin looked more oily. I’m probably allergic to some ingredient, so my advice is for you to do a patch test on your arm before trying this product.

INGREDIENTS

Sand & Sky prides themselves on their clean, efficacious and cruelty-free products. And we stand by them. All the ingredients were cautiously chosen and the ingredients are proudly Australian! The Clearing Cleanser contains:

  • Salicylic Acid
  • Old Man Weed
  • Natural Prebiotics
  • Australian Finger Lime
  • Tasmanian Pepperberry
  • Aloe Vera

HOW TO USE IT

Squeeze a small amount of the gel into the palm of your hand, lather it with water and massage onto your skin. Rinse well and pat dry. Use it daily as a morning and night cleanser.

CLEARING FACE MASK

PRICE & PACKAGING

The Clearing Face Mask retails for 29.90€ and is available at Sand & Sky and other retailers. Like the Clearing Cleanser, this Face Mask is packaged in a simple squeezable plastic tube, with a slightly darker green color that is present in all the Oily Control range. This style of packaging is so chic and ideal for traveling, and it allows you to carefully control how much you dispense.

The Oil Control face mask’s main ingredient is salicylic acid, which acts as an exfoliator. It also contains Australian Clay and Australian Finger Lime, which combats clogged pores and excess oil. The key ingredient that’s present in the mask and not in the cleanser is niacinamide, which is great for smoothing the texture of the skin, minimizing pores, redness, wrinkles, regulating oils and protecting the skin against sun damage (very important, beauties!). This ingredient is amazing for all skin types! This formula truly makes skin glow, promotes smooth and clear skin, without leaving it dry!

FORMULA

The first thing you notice about this face mask is the Clay in it! It immediately reminded me of the pink face mask that I love so much! The fragrance is so soft, natural and soothing. After applying it, you will notice that it starts to dry in a beautiful way, without leaving the skin tight. It’s really easy to rinse, which is something that can be a bother when it comes to face masks with clay in the ingredient list. It dries quickly and you can see the oils being extracted from the skin. The ingredients on this formula are formulated to be gentle on the skin and I really feel that! No irritation, no dryness, or tightness. My skin really feels clean and soft after using this face mask. It’s almost like I’m using a treatment on my skin, like I went to a spa and did a really good treatment!

INGREDIENTS

Like all the Sand & Sky products, if we take a look at the ingredients list of the Clearing Face Mask we can really see that they took some care when choosing the list. Every ingredient is there for a reason. The list includes:

  • Australian White Clay
  • Salicylic Acid
  • Niacinamide
  • Old Man Weed
  • Australian Finger Lime
  • Natural Prebiotics

HOW TO USE IT

Apply a thin even layer to dry skin using the applicator brush. Leave on for 10 minutes, then gently remove with warm water or a wet towel. For oily to combination skin, use 2-3 times per week. For dry skin, use 1-2 times per week.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I don’t believe that we have to sell a kidney to buy a good skincare product but I also don’t believe in buying cheap products. Saying this, I think both products are worth the price! We really get what we pay for with these formulas and ingredients. They are natural, clean ingredients that are well thought. Although the cleanser is not for me, I think other types of skins will have great results after using it. If you asked me, a normal type or even a dry type of skin will like this cleanser, because something that I really noticed is that this cleanser prevents the skin from being stripped of nutrients. But that’s something that I have to study. Don’t worry I will keep you posted!

Now, about the face mask. It has Australian clay! I love this ingredient, my skin loves this ingredient, do I need to say more? I like it, so I will definitely repurchase it. Does it beat my beloved Australian Pink Clay Mask? Sorry, but no. In its defense, nothing does! But do I see results and feel that someone with normal/oily skin will appreciate this mask? Absolutely 100%.
