Coco & Eve surprised us with another hair product and we are all for it! We’ve been a long-time fan of their hair masks and this entry into haircare is such a great extension for the brand.
When it comes to hair care, I can be quite picky. I want products that work, with high quality ingredients but I don’t want to have to sell a kidney to pay for them. I also want products with ingredients that are relatively clean.
The experience showed me that my hair doesn’t react well with many chemicals so, to find a product that keeps those to a minimum is my ideal.
Coco & Eve approached us about trying their new pre-shampoo and to say that we were very excited is little. We love the fact that they are a vegan, cruelty free brand and we had such pleasant experiences with their other hair care products. This review is sponsored by Coco and Eve but as always, our opinions are our own and we are always real with you, beauties. What’s a pre-shampoo?
A pre-shampoo treatment is a product that you can use before shampoo. It can be an oil, a mask, and even a scrub, these products can be used for different purposes. The important part is to identify your problem and choose the correct pre-shampoo for you.
If you have greasy hair, there’s some pre-shampoos that can help remove the oil and product build-up for cleaner strands. But if you have dry hair, you may prefer a pre-shampoo that is all about deep conditioning, sealing hydration.
BOND BUILDING PRE-SHAMPOO TREATMENT
The Coco and Eve Like a Virgin Pre-Shampoo treatment retails for 26€ and is available at Coco and Eve. This pre-shampoo is packaged in pump bottle packaging, for easy dispersing, which I always appreciate. It simplifies my life so much.
It smells so good, it reminds me of Like a Virgin Hair Mask, which has the characteristic smell of coconut. The formula has a nice creamy consistency, it feels rich when you apply it on the hair. I can feel it sinking in the hair and it disperses so easily making it really easy to apply.
Bond-building products repair broken disulfide bonds, one of the three main types of bonds that give hair its structure, shape, shine and elasticity. These bonds can be broken by heat but are most vulnerable to bleach and chemical treatments.
Like a Virgin Bond Building, Pre-Shampoo is a holistic treatment that uses bond building to repair all three types of broken bonds and prevent future damage. It’s clinically proven to reduce breakage by up to 85%.
It works by repairing and fortifying the hair by a microemulsion system complemented with a unique polymer. The smaller particle size and increased hair affinity, the bond building polymer penetrates more deeply than competing actives, making interactions with the hair shaft more targeted.
Now let’s put some chemistry into the mixture…
The bond builder rebuilds broken disulfide bonds found in the cortex of the hair, including hydrogen and ionic bonds (often neglected). Next, it binds 1.5x more moisture to the hair cuticle and sees it for a stronger hair structure, preventing future damage. For protection, it provides increased deposition to the lipid layer of the hair, reducing ficam-lhe even after 5 washes. The secret to strength hair is from the core!
I feel this is the perfect time to show you the results. Like I said I have damaged, dry hair and after using this product I could feel my hair instantly more hydrated. It was so easy to comb it and style it with my Steampod. I have to be honest and say that I also used a hair mask that I’m going to talk about in a future post, but while I was rinsing the hair with water (before using the mask) I noticed how easier it was for me to run my fingers through my hair. It was so soft that at that point I wondered if the hair mask was really needed. And to say that is a lot because my hair always needs a hair mask.
The next day my hair was so smooth and hydrated.
- Coconut and avocado oils are a valuable source of proteins and vitamins to restore moisture to strengthen and repair damaged hair.
- Nourishing pomegranate and apricot oil to replace the lipids stripped by chemical treatments by providing essential fatty acids with moisturizing properties that are going to form a protective layer in the hair surface.
HOW TO USE IT
The bond building treatment is designed to be used on damaged hair, 2-3 times a week.
- Dampen and section the hair.
- Apply 1 pump of the treatment at each section, applying more product until the hair is fully saturated.
- Leave it for 10 minutes.
- Rinse your hair and proceed with your normal hair-washing routine.
Since I’m so hard on my hair by coloring it and styling it with heat (almost every week), I’m always drawn to treatments that help repair my hair. And this is exactly what this product promises. But I ask myself ‘Do I really need a pre-shampoo, isn’t it enough to use shampoo and conditioner/hair mask?’’. I always thought so, but after trying this product, I’m quite divided. The truth is that this is another step and this means more time in the bath, more waste of water, but if we think about it, when using this pre-shampoo, we are also saving shampoo, because it is not necessary to use so much shampoo on the next step. I normally use shampoo two times when I wash my hair, but if I use this product I only need to use shampoo one time. But will this take up more of my time? Yes, it’s another 10/15 minutes on your hair routine, but after all this is a treatment, and the truth is that during these ten minutes you can do other things, such as hair removal, use an oil on your body or just take advantage of these ten minutes to pause in your busy life and meditate. Sometimes ten minutes looking at the wall can do a lot of good for mental health. What about the results? They are there. I noticed my hair more malleable, healthier, glowing. Easy to style and it stayed like that for days…And that’s what matters, isn’t it? The results.
