Wellness Experience

Hello Beauties

Rita and I went to an event last weekend called “Wellness Experience”, where they had some workshops about self-care, beauty, and fitness.

Because of work, we could not assist all of them, so we chose to assist the workshop about Face Yoga with Vanessa Martins and the professional yoga teacher Kasia Pereira (IG: @yogafacial.pt)

Facial exercises may be one of the oldest anti-aging tactics in the book. It’s been in and out of vogue in popular culture since the early 20th century. The notion seems simple – just as we exercise our bodies in the gym to keep them supple and strong, it follows the motion that our face muscles might also become more lifted and taut with regular workout sessions.

Kasia is the first face yoga expert in Portugal, that helps women stay with a younger appearance for a longer time.

In this Workshop we learned some techniques and tips on how to do face lifting using our own hands and some tools, using Facial Yoga.

First, what is Facial Yoga?

It´s a method that involves facial exercises with, breath, corporal posture, diet, and facial expressions.
By making repetitive motions and exaggerated expressions in order to activate and build muscles.Consider it resistance training for the face—by strengthening the matrix that holds everything up, sagging around the jaw and eyes might be less likely over time. Doing it every day can decrease the swelling of the face, have a better appearance of the skin, attenuate the riddles of the nose and lip, decrease the under eye darkness, tone the face, and increase the elasticity of the facial skin.

All these results can be obtained using our own hands and some tools like the roller and the Gua sha. Don’t worry, just scroll down to see the best tools to use in facial yoga.

I can say for both of us, that we learn some tips, that for sure will apply in the future, and at present. For example, I was using the Gua sha once per day, and it’s only advised once per week.

Some techniques that we learned that day were:
• Open the eyes without lifting the eyebrows, it’s a good technique to not create riddles in the forehead
• To reduce the wrinkles in the corner of the eyes, you can open your eyes, with the fingers do some strength to handle the skin and then turn off the eyes;
• To increase the elasticity of the cheeks, you can relax the mouth close, and push with the tongue the cheeks.
• To reduce the double chin, pinch the mandible.

Some techniques also to do face lifting are:
• Touch with the tongue in the palate and then open the maxim of your mouth

If you want a SOS exercise because you are going to an event and want express lifting, what you should do is use a facial oil and do movements with your hands front down to up, with some strength, doing some pressure on the jaw area to create definition.

Now, the most important, does it work?

Maybe! There’s a 2018 study conducted at Northwestern University that showed that 20 weeks of daily facial exercise did indeed result in measurably firmer skin, and fuller upper and lower cheeks. The protocol involved 30 minutes a day for the first 8 weeks of the study, then every other day thereafter. Participants deemed themselves to look up to three years younger at the study’s completion, while impartial dermatologists gauged a slight but significant increase in cheek fullness. Since this was the first, and so far only, credible academic study to measure the effects of facial exercise, consider it a cautiously optimistic indication that there probably is a benefit to facial exercise.

But this is where the important part is – you need a regiment. All these techniques should be done 10 times and then repeat, always in front of a mirror. Don´t expect to see visible results overnight. It should be done once a day for six weeks nonstop, and for a better before and after, you should take photos.

If you are starting this technique, maybe is better to see first a professional, because wrong moves can do exactly the opposite, and that is something that you don’t want for sure.

Need a little help? The right tools are the answer…
